Speaking of new works, one particular pet project of mine is the update to my short story ASHA that I released some years back. Initially a story I never thought would see the light of day, I published Asha to see what kind of response I'd get from readers. As many of you know, there aren't many African American female MC's in the urban fantasy genre and certainly none that immediately come to my mind. Although it needed some tweaking, Asha got a great response from readers. That gave me the green light to continue the storyline. But I got sidetracked with other projects and never wrote the promised sequel. Even so, I knew I would one day resume work on Asha once I cleared my schedule.
Over the years, I attempted to work on the follow up to Asha, but realized there were problems with the story, many of which thoughtful readers alluded to in their reviews of Asha. Some of these issues arose from the fact that Asha was conceived as a Horror story, but was passed off as a mash up of the urban fantasy and paranormal genres. With time and effort, I was able to sort through the inherent confusion caused by the narrative's miscategorization and reorganized Asha into a proper young adult urban fantasy story. To do so, I had to abandon the short story, but use it as the foundation for a new series. So it's with much excitement for me to reveal that I've completed the first two books featuring Asha and am currently at work on the third title.
If you're wondering why I haven't released these books (or the new Rogue Hunter titles for that matter) it's largely because of my dissatisfaction with the process of publishing books piecemeal. As a reader, I find it annoying to discover a book that I enjoy only to have to wait years for the follow up. Hence, to spare my readers the same headache, I've decided it would be better for me to publish my books in bunches so readers can enjoy my series' books in rapid fire succession rather than being forced to wait months, or in some cases, years for them.
I'll have more to say on the new Asha series as well as Rogue Hunter in the weeks to come. Stay tuned.
